Can travelling in Eileen get more glorious than this?  We’re back on the road again and even in our fifth year, it still feels exciting.

Our first night, actually make that two nights, were spent at the precariously sited Warren Campsite outside Folkestone.  We were perched on the edge of the lower cliffs, down a very narrow road and only a short stroll down to the beach below.  We sat in the sunshine, strolled the pebbly beach, gazed across the English Channel to the French coast, watched pink sunsets and also got ourselves re-acquainted with push-button showers……..

We spent Wednesday wandering around Dover Castle, a day which started well and quickly turned bad and back to good again.  Let me elaborate.  At the entry gate the ticket lady said she would charge us both the concession price, despite me saying the only old person was Rodney!  Come to think of it, that must mean that I look older than I am and she thought I was refusing to acknowledge my old age, or she was just in a very generous mood. I’ll take the latter.
She gave us a map and instructions on where to park Eileen in a more spacious spot, but my navigation skills are either not yet tuned in, or Rodney set off too quickly and disorientated my view of the map.  Anyway, we turned left too soon and rather than turn around and continue further up the road, Rodney decided to push on and ended up driving up a footpath, squeezing through an incredibly narrow cut in the rock and popping out at the top of the wrong carpark!!!  We drove through the carpark with a bad case of the giggles and finally turned up at the area we had been told to park in.  It worked, but for a moment there, I think we both thought we were totally stuffed, especially when the narrow section turned sharply to the right, but Eileen is so slim, we somehow got though and thankfully we didn’t meet any pedestrians or officials en route.

It was only this wide!

Apparently ‘Maurice’ built Dover Castle, sadly he seemed to have no surname…….

Such beautiful weather, we could clearly see France 21 miles away.
