Gardens Of Delight And Delirium

On Thursday 10th May, out of nowhere, we woke up to a sunny 27˚c day!  We dived down to the bottom of the storage to pull out our summer clothes and set off for Chaumont-sur-Loire further west, on the other side of the river. The chateau is really very pretty and is participating in the ‘Festival International des Jardins’.  One area is laid out with 30 gardens of various descriptions, some too whacky to describe and others just delightful to wander around. Throughout the park area there are also about 16 sculptures set out on the lawns, or amongst the trees.  We stayed there for hours and took lots of photos, only leaving because we were a bit foot weary and starving, plus our Pate de Champagne was back in Eileen with today’s baguette.

Driving south again we passed through Montrichard and Chenonceaux, crossed the River Cher and parked Eileen at the Le Moulin Fort campsite.  We put the awning out for the first time, pulled the camping chairs out on to the dry grass and sat and read our books.  Fantastique. Magnifique. Superbe.   As the sun went down over the river we ate a big salad and hoped that it might be dry again on Friday so that we could ride our bikes to the Chateau de Chenonceux.

Sunshine at last at Chenonceaux
