{"id":455,"date":"2012-05-08T09:57:31","date_gmt":"2012-05-08T08:57:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.petersphotogallery.com\/rodneyandlaura\/?p=455"},"modified":"2025-11-23T05:21:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-23T05:21:08","slug":"on-our-own-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.petersphotogallery.com\/rodneyandlaura\/2012\/05\/08\/on-our-own-again\/","title":{"rendered":"On Our Own Again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Having done a long drive in the rain on Sunday , we decided to slow up on Monday.\u00a0 After showers and breakfast we drove to the front gate of the campsite where we could get some Wi-Fi reception and sat there for a good 40 minutes sending the last blog and catching up a little on world affairs.\u00a0 At 10am we drove south to Valencay to try and find a supermarket.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t a Sunday, nor a public holiday; it was an ordinary\u00a0Monday,\u00a0but yet\u00a0again everything was shut and there were no cars or people on the streets.\u00a0\u00a0 So we\u00a0peeked at the Chateau de Valencay through the decorative gates and then drove north out of town.<\/p>\n<p>Mon Dieu!!!\u00a0\u00a0 The Intermarche supermarket was actually open!!!!\u00a0 We stocked up on goodies and made sure we had enough for a few days, as it is another public holiday on Tuesday.\u00a0 Unbelievably, there is also a public holiday next week on the 17<sup>th<\/sup> and another on the 28<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0\u00a0We really\u00a0are starting to\u00a0wonder about the economy of this country\u2026!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_456\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-456\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-456\" title=\"Chateau du Valencay\" src=\"https:\/\/www.petersphotogallery.com\/rodneyandlaura\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/82-Chateau-Valencay-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-456\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chateau de Valencay<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We arrived in Cheverny and collected lots of leaflets from the local tourism centre (which was open) and then had a stroll around a couple of streets, before driving out\u00a0to the edge of\u00a0town, to the Les Saules campsite.\u00a0 We spent the whole afternoon researching which chateaus to visit in the area and Rodney cooked up a\u00a0lasagne\u00a0which turned out to be a cottage pie\u2026..? Rodney\u2019s schoolboy French still has a long way to go&#8230;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s now Tuesday morning and it&#8217;s raining again, so our plans to cycle back in to Cheverny have gone down the latrine.\u00a0 Apparently the interior is stunning, so we&#8217;ll drive in , rather than cycle and have an
