{"id":589,"date":"2012-06-02T18:20:41","date_gmt":"2012-06-02T17:20:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.petersphotogallery.com\/rodneyandlaura\/?p=589"},"modified":"2025-11-23T05:37:01","modified_gmt":"2025-11-23T05:37:01","slug":"the-old-the-new-and-some-thoughts-on-food","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.petersphotogallery.com\/rodneyandlaura\/2012\/06\/02\/the-old-the-new-and-some-thoughts-on-food\/","title":{"rendered":"The Old, The New And Some Thoughts On Food\u2026."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our speediest departure yet! \u00a0 We managed to get up, have breakfast and prepare Eileen for departure in exactly 2 hours.\u00a0 That still sounds like a long time to me, but we cannot seem to do it any faster.\u00a0 We checked out of the campsite at Les Eyzies and drove to the other side of the village to the Grotte de Font-de-Gaume.\u00a0 We queued for 20 minutes until the ticket office opened and then managed to get on the 10.30am tour.\u00a0 We decided on this cave as it is the only one left in the area where you can still view the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">original<\/span> paintings and carvings.\u00a0 Unfortunately, the tour guide spoke only French so we had to buy the book afterwards to get all the details of the amazing paintings we had just seen. We\u2019ve had a late breakfast, missed the market in town, we\u2019ve read our books and the one on the cave we visited yesterday.\u00a0 We\u2019ll have a swim when I finish typing and then we\u2019ll cook up a late lunch with the remainders of the pork filet, perhaps in a teriyaki marinade with rice today.\u00a0 \u00a0 We\u2019ve both decided we may pass on the foie gras, which is a speciality of this area, because we have just been reading up about it and think the whole thing sounds quite disgusting.\u00a0 There\u2019s plenty of nice things in the world to eat without excessively force-feeding ducks and geese in cages to produce grossly bloated livers.\u00a0 Mind you I also won\u2019t be eating any frogs legs or snails, purely because I\u2019m turning my nose up at the very thought of it\u2026..!\u00a0 One of the tastiest things we have found is raspberry jaffa cakes, I think they beat the traditional orange ones!\u00a0 Luckily we bought a mega pack in Aldi\u2026\u2026..!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our speediest departure yet!
