Saturday 17th<\/sup> June<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a fresh loaf of bread, warm from the campsite kitchen, we headed west along the top coast of the Peloponnese. Thunder was rumbling when we woke up and it was forecast to be a damp squib of a day, but it was sunny as we set off at 10:00am. The motorway and bridge tolls totalled \u20ac35 ($56) to get us back to mainland Greece. Ouch!  The road along the other side of the Corinthian Gulf was a lot wigglier with a patchwork of surfaces, and the clouds hung heavy on the hills beside us. We stopped in a friendly caf\u00e9 for an iced teas and biscuits break beside the \u201cwe\u2019ll call it a beach\u201d at Agion Pantes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Around 3:00 pm we arrived at Camping Delphi set high above the coast and down below the town and ancient ruins of Delphi. For the first time in weeks, we had to park and set-up in the rain, which left us with a single option of holing up inside for the rest of the day. There is more rain forecast for tomorrow morning until midday, but we\u2019re hoping that will change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunday 18th<\/sup> June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was still raining when we woke up, so we were glad we hadn\u2019t booked the lift up to the ruins at 9:00 am. But by 9:00 am the clouds had lifted and the rain had stopped. Ah well. That wasn\u2019t the forecast. We settled in for a morning around Reggie and paid for the 1:15 pm shuttle up to Delphi.  Yet again, the ancient ruins were set on a very steep hill, so it was hiking time again. We took it very slowly, reading all the information signs on route and breathing in the marvellous views. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The stadium was placed at the very top of the site, but we made it at tortoise pace. Thankfully the day stayed cloudy and cool, so it was much easier to cope with. Before leaving, we had a good mooch around the museum and then walked up to the town of Delphi. Cold fruit drinks and a cafe with views all the way to the coast were darn good, and then we hopped in a taxi back to Camping Delphi. A lamb dinner and stuffed tomatoes at the camping restaurant was made all the better for the beautiful views out across a valley full of thousands of olive trees all the way to the coastline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
