The Dordogne area of France is calling us, so we decided to get nearer to the area. We stopped off at a large hardware store and spent some more euro on a longer electric power cable and connector, so we can now stretch to 25 metres if the need arises. I also got a little fold up stool to make it easier stepping in and out of Eileen; sounds ridiculous, but the knees aren’t happy with the big step. Next stop was a huge supermarket to buy some food, drinking water and a drying rack to hang out the window. Now that the weather is better, we hopefully won’t need to pay for tumble dryers as much.
We were aiming for Perigueux, but I then read about the village of Brantôme, which sounded really nice and I found the Camping Peyrelevade that also sounded good. Mince alors, both of them really are! The village is referred to locally as the ‘Venice of Perigord’; we only found one canal, but the abbey is spectacularly built in to the side of a cliff and the village is on the island opposite bank. The campsite is lovely with very new bathroom facilities, lovely hedged sites, right by the river Dronne and it has a swimming pool. So we spent the afternoon getting up to date with washing, reading, researching, swimming and finally eating a late meal outside under the awning.

I have to admit I love doing the blog, but we’re both amazed how little spare time there seems to be everyday. Some days it’s suddenly 9.00pm and we haven’t done the washing up from lunch and dinner (where’s the flippin’ dishwasher?), we haven’t done any emails and the campervan is covered in stuff that needs putting away before we can even get the bed out. I’ve wanted to do a bit of sewing, or drawing, but haven’t found the time yet, though I have strung together and hung up lots of pebbles and shells to remind me of our lovely time on the Ile de Ré. Being on ‘Rodney Tours’, there is research to be done on where we’re going tomorrow, so I often end up doing that as we drive, at the same time as navigating, looking out for road signs, making sure Rodney stays on the right side of the road and trying to spot toilet stops, views worthy of photos, supermarkets and parking big enough for campervans. We’re quite a team!
Having said all of that, today was, amazingly, a no new photos day, so here’s one from yesterday of Rodney with a baguette under his arm.

And my closing words before going to sleep were “Well, I don’t know where that day went….!”
Oh and we did need the extended electric cable today, glad we bought one, phew…
