Gloomy Grenoble

Movement is important, especially when it’s not happening

Sunday 26^th June 2022

We’re still in the hotel, we still have no rental car and we’ve not had a single message, phone call, or response to our emails from the RAC. I guess we were foolish to expect anything more.  Needing to get out of the hotel room and into the sunshine we plodded down to a main road and caught a bus to Victor Hugo bus stop in Grenoble.  Being a Sunday in France, the city was dead.  So for something to do we paid for a return ride on the Telepherique Grenoble-Bastille which took us up to a rather tatty fort area on the top of a promontory of the Chartreuse Mountain. We tottered around up there for a while, enjoying the fabulous views of the mountains surrounding Grenoble. 

We checked the maps and the tourist brochures to try and find something to else to do, but found nothing, so we wandered the streets until we discovered a Japanese restaurant that was still open at 2pm…….very late for a restaurant in France. It was a fabulous meal that we both enjoyed and set us up for a meander back to a bus stop for our return to the hotel.  I had a giggle when we noted that this bus stop was called Docteur Martin.  Had we been teleported to Cornwall ?!!!

Back at the hotel we did some research for hire cars, in case the RAC came up with nothing again.  We’re due to check out of this hotel by 11am Monday morning and we have no idea ‘what next’……

There was some good news for today, that I was anxiously waiting to hear all day.  My brother Neil had his hip replacement operation on Sunday morning, and I was so pleased to hear that the operation was over, and that he was in recovery by the time we got back to the hotel.  A big relief all round and especially for him.
