Tuesday 13th June,
We needed to find somewhere that sold food that wasn’t already on a plate. We found a Lidl, with a little help from our friends, almost in the centre of Nafplio. It still surprises me that a bit of food shopping can be so enjoyable when travelling like this and I can’t seem to explain why.
The car park on the quay was huge, so no tricky manoeuvring required here. The tourist office lady handed us a map and pointed us in the direction of the ‘old town’. Narrow streets were filled with cafes, shops, derelict buildings, plenty of lovely bougainvillea and cars and vans still somehow squeezing through tiny gaps. Cold drinks in the Plateia Syntagmates refreshed us before dawdling along Akti Miaouli (another quayside), to seek out an elevator; not something we look for very often. We found it and rattled our way up to the Palace Hotel, a massive modern fort-like complex. From there it was only a short stroll uphill to the clock tower and the Akronanafplia, a Frankish fortress.

We breathed in the views on both sides of the promontory and then opted to walk back to the lift rather than tackle all the steps back down. We made a couple of purchases and then sat down for an hour at Restaurant Matoto for lunch and lots of fluid.

We had intended to stay in the car park overnight, but after Rodney had had an hour of snoozing and snoring in Reggie, we decided to drive for an hour out to the coast and find Camping Bekas near Palaia Epidavros. We scored a nice flat, spacious pitch very close to the beach. It’s yet another pebbly, stony, gritty beach, but the view out over the sea to the Saronic Islands is lovely.

Wednesday 14th June
A short yoga session with sea views, a bedding washing session and then some ongoing research of ‘where next’ filled our hot sunny morning. A walk right along the beach, as far as we could go, and a swim In the Saronic Gulf filled our hot sunny afternoon. Another day for contemplation, communication and relaxation.

those pics are stunning now i would like to go to greece
